CPAC2011 Thursday Morning

Got my media pass at 7:00 AM. It's 9:00 now gearing up in the main function room below. I’m in the Bloggers’ Lounge, but I don’t know for how long. I have my media credentials and it says "Blogger" in green below my name on the conference pass. Haven’t been over at the media lounge yet, and if I’m kicked out of here, I’ll check it out. I’m told I can work over there if I have to. Looks like old media: newspapers, TV, etc. There’s a good spirit here and I’ll try to stand my ground. Either way, I saved the $175 conference fee I've usually paid as a conservative civilian and that counts for something.
David Keene, president of the American Conservative Union is speaking, to introduce Michelle Bachmann. She read the roll call of conservative Republican congressman and Senators. She's up now and pumping up the faithful. They're responding. The room isn't filled yet, but they're pouring in from the far side. The internet connection here is deathly slow. So many people are uploading video now, it's clogging things. I better publish when I can. Pam Geller of Atlas Shrugs just sat down next to me and set up. Talked to her in the lounge last night. She's a soldier. Gonna attend her presentation on the Ground Zero Mosque tomorrow.

Okay. Michelle is going after the libs for shutting down energy development here in the good old USA. You know, oil shale, offshore drilling, ANWAR, etc. Good for her. She's finishing now. She's pumping up the crowd to take back the country. "Let's roll."

It's kind of cute that the far right is using the liberals rallying cry during the Bush years of "let's take back our country".

When I was a child I was fascinated by professional wrestling. I used to tape matches with my vcr to watch over and over.It was fun----for awhile. Then I realized that the whole thing was a sham! The fix was in! Sure, Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper seemed to hate each other in the ring, but who knew they were laughing and hanging out back stage when the fans weren't looking?

As I got older I noticed that politics in this country is exactly like the professional wrestling I loved as kid. It's a lot of fun to root for your guy to win, but in the end it doesn't really matter because it's all fixed. It's no more than an arena to ostensibly exercise your "rights" and make you feel that you're participating.

Hello Tom:

If you would...could you please survey other CPAC attendees and poll them on why they feel that Gov. Palin isn't there? Some (like Eric Cantor) have hinted that she could make more money at an alternate venue. Some, more incitefully, think that she's distancing herself from GOProud - the gay Republican group, despite her protestations to the contrary. Readers of your blog would be interested to see what you can find out about this 'on the ground' at CPAC. Thanks!

Uh...make that 'insightfully'

you realize 'irregardless' isn't a word, right? I'm assuming you're being ironic?

I would be curious to hear what the current sentiment is towards Pres. Bush and his recently canceled trip to Switzerland for fear of potential arrest on human rights violations, namely torture. I hear this is a growing concern throughout Europe--any legitimacy to this?

"FAR RIGHT"...It use to be that the far right was the KKK or John Birch. Nowadays the far right is anything Reagan stood for. The far left as I see it nowadays is the ACLU and Code pink and Green-Peas. The center is what Acorn, Susan Collins and Olympia Snow? Hey Skippy, what do you consider to be far left and center as we now know what you consider to be far right? Also, If you yourself had to choose between Capitalism and Socialism which would you rather live under, and can you define the two?
