Turmoil Twenty-Thirteen

Brace yourself. “Progressives” are trying to consolidate power in our Senate and in the White House. Tea Party Republicans in the House will try to stop them, but it doesn’t look good. Turmoil is around the corner. Looks like 2013 and beyond is going to be a very rough ride.

History shows that leftists, or “progressives” as they like to call themselves in 21st century America, have been far more oppressive than the right ever was. Ironically, they’re blind to it, thinking themselves tolerant and accepting. They’re anything but.

Progressives like to compare the American Revolution to the French, but aside from both being revolutions that defied monarchies, they weren’t similar at all. For example: The American Founding Fathers were tolerant and conservative, passing the Bill of Rights in 1791 that guaranteed freedom of religion. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;” is the first line of the First Amendment, and it has prevailed for more than two centuries. It’s being challenged by the Obama Administration’s leftists here in 2012, but is not yet fully adjudicated at this writing. Around the same year - 1791 French leftists were taking over the Catholic Church’s property and its clergy as well. By 1794, they were murdering priests and tens of thousands of others.
When leftists took over Mexico in the 1920s, they set about killing priests there too - as depicted in this year’s film “For Greater Glory.” When they took over Spain in the 1930s, leftists went right at it again, killing thousands, 498 of whom were recently beatified (put on a path to sainthood).
Leftists who took over Russia and eastern Europe murdered tens of thousands of priests and millions of others throughout the 1920s and ‘30s as well. Germany’s National Socialists also arrested and murdered priests in the 1930s and ’40s. St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Scarborough, Maine is named for one priest they killed in Auschwitz.
When leftists take over, anybody who isn’t 100% politically correct better look out, especially if you happen to be a Catholic who takes his/her religion seriously. I’m not talking about “Cafeteria Catholics” who pick and choose what they like and leave the rest. I’m referring to orthodox Catholics who will not bend when leftist governments pressure them to violate their beliefs.

Bishops appointed by conservative popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI have begun to put pressure on leftist Catholics in the United States. Several are refusing communion to politicians who support abortion or homosexual “marriage.” The USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops), the University of Notre Dame, and other Catholic institutions have sued the Obama Administration for their First Amendment rights after being forced to provide abortion-inducing drugs, artificial contraception, and sterilization. Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, current president of the USCCB, is telling Catholics to defy Obamacare mandates. How many will? How will the Obama Administration respond to their defiance?

Timothy Dolan
Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, who was president of the USCCB before Dolan, was quoted saying something a couple of years ago that brought me right to attention when I read it last month: “I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison, and his successor will die a martyr in the public square,” he said.

I thought, “Wow! Is it going to get that bad that fast? Right here in the USA?” Francis George is a solid, conservative guy who was born in Chicago and has been archbishop there since 1997. He would know many in the Obama Administration very well. Given all that, I have to take what Cardinal Francis George says very seriously indeed.

He’ll be 76 in January and he got his second cancer diagnosis last August. His successor, who he predicts will die in prison, should be taking office fairly soon.

Francis George
Seeming to soften his quote a bit in his November 3rd column - three days before the election - he wrote: “Speaking a few years ago to a group of priests, entirely outside of the current political debate, I was trying to express in overly dramatic fashion what the complete secularization of our society could bring.” He said his words were not “prophetic” and that “What is omitted from the reports [of his original quote] is a final phrase I added about the bishop who follows a possibly martyred bishop: ‘His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the church has done so often in human history.’”

Fair enough, Cardinal George. Yes, France did “pick up the shards of a ruined society” after its revolution. Germany and Spain did too. Mexico and Russia are still in the process. But each country went through holy hell before starting to put it back together. Is that what America is in for too?

Sure looks like it.

Hi Tom,
I just finished reading Eric Metaxis's book, "Bonhoeffer-Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy" and highly recommend it. Throughout the book I was astonished at the parallels between Hitler's rise to power in Nazi Germany and the Obama administration. Many Americans will survive this time in history, but will they survive with soul intact? I admire and join with those who are bold enough to speak for those who have no voice, and believe God commands us to do so. Thanks for another excellent article. Barb Miller

Well so far they have not burned any heretics and no inquisition either.

Am I reading this correctly, Mr. McLaughlin? Do you believe the Obama administration might implement a wholesale extermination of Catholic priests?

Tom McLaughlin said...

No Steve. I'm shining the light on historical trends when leftists take over power. The Obama Administration is persecuting the Catholic Church by attempting to force it to violate its principles by mandating that it pay for abortion-inducing drugs for employees of Catholic hospitals, universities and other institutions.

Depending on what the courts rule, the Catholic Church may be forced to relinquish those institutions. That's similar to how the Estates General began in France - taking church property. Within a few years, they were killing priests. Will that happen here? I hope not, but I expect anti-Catholic government persecution to escalate as long as the left - the Democrat Party - remains in power.

Horse puckey. Obama's about as much of a leftist as McLaughlin.

The weekly servings of bitter vetch and sour grapes are quite enjoyable, however.

I'm with Buttercup - I LOVE the sour grapes that Tom dishes out, especially now knowing that his dwindling tribe of bitter, old white men will never elect a like-minded president. Now I can just read and laugh. What a great double-header on page 6 of yesterdays Daily Sun - a letter from Tea Party Tom, AND a member of the John Birch Society!! Yes, the same group who was against the Civil Rights act of 1964, and who William Buckly called "idiotic" and "paranoid".

Speaking of paranoid, Tom rants and raves about the "holy hell" coming, and of concentration camps, and the murdering of priests. Yikes! Better run to your underground shelter, Tom! Lock yourself in and fantasize about the holy hell going on outside....heck, you can even pretend that Climate Change is not happening while you are down there!

And while you are down there muttering and sputtering about our "once great country", the rest of us up above who enjoy reality will continue to enjoy the still great, and still improving United States of America.

Cheers!

Robert--- you're as out of touch as Tom. No doubt an Obama fan. Let me guess, it doesn't bother you that our president has a kill list and murders people with drones at will? Women and children are being killed by the hundreds as a result. In addition, add some American citizens to those stats.

Still improving United States? Wow!! Only a true fool would utter such non sense. Only someone who is a victim of the divide and conquer mentality would say such non sense.

We have a pres who is killing our constitution! Ndaa! Wiretapping! And who ran guns and drugs in Mexico. And who has an unconstituional healthcare plan written by big pharma. We are waging unconstituional wars and fighting a fake war on terror so corporate bankers can make money! Yeah, great country.

We can deploy troops around the world at a moments notice but can't help, our own after a severe natural disaster------ look at ny and nj! Improving country!! ??What!!!????

Go back to the tv. Everything's ok. The corporate media told you so.

Thank god I don't play the two party game anymore.
How do you all not get that two, party system are set up to divide and conquer? Unbelievable

Sorry, Ol Hick, but I don't watch tv. I see you are more knowledgable than the Supreme Court when it comes to Constitutional law. This makes me take everything you say with a grain of salt.

Perhaps you can hole up in the bunker with Tom and talk about conspiracies, and how terrible our country has gotten.

Things are not perfect. They never were. They never will be. There has always been dirty, sneaky business done by our country. What time period are you thinking off when things were so good?

Tom's type is a strange lot. They believe things that have no proof - like their religion, and disbelieve things with tons of proof - like Climate Change. Reality means nothing.

At least they give the world laughs. Deluded people are funny!

Sorry, Tom, but religions have to conform to the law of the land. That is why Christiens still can't smite non-believers, and Mormans can't have more than one wife,,etc.

And why are you not up in arms about the blatent disregard for the seperation of church and state in our public schools with the robotic chanting each morning about "one nation, under god:?

Ol Hickory said...

Brian, you needn't be a Supreme Court justice to know the constitution. Obamacare is unconstitutional. So is wiretapping citizens. So is Ndaa. Last I knew a president needed congressional approval before commitng troops. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the president is allowed to run guns in foreign countries? Or, assassinate American citizens on foreign soil with no due process. It seems immoral to say you are going to help Whistleblowers only to persecute them with zeal. The list goes on. Conspiracy? Hardly. Please, refute any of it. I'll wait......

I have trouble conversing with somebody who insists they know more about Constitutional law than Supreme Court justices. It is like you telling me that you know that Stephen Hawking made a mistake with his physics.

Obama ran guns into Mexico? Can you show me some proof of his involvment in the ATF gunwalking scandal?

And what exactly is a "fake war"?

Papers in NY this morning are talking about how much Obama came through for them with Sandy relief.

I get it - you hate Obama. Fine, I am not so pleased with him myself. He has lots of faults. But that doesn't mean I will stoop to unproven allegations and declare myslef an expert in constitutional law.

Brian said...

Hick, I'm still waiting on the time period in US history that you think we are now falling from....

Ol' Hickory said...

Again, who's said anything about knowing more than a justice? You need to understand the constitution to realize what is going on. Not that hard...Obama did run guns, it's called fast and furious. And he should be impeached for it. Proof? Have you researched this debacle? He gave the green light. Libya did not have congressional approval. Period. And we ruined that rat hole even more! There are a few congressmen bold enough to have raised the dire consequences of such hubris. So the papers in New York praise Obama!? For sandy relief?! Are you kidding me? Places in New York and jersey still aren't getting help! A disaster! And a shame! It's called pr and the press should be ashamed for ignoring the real disaster areas and the pathetic response from FEMA. What a joke!
What about Ndaa? Brad manning? Gitmo? Bailouts? Whistleblowers and transparency? You see, these are all facts, yet you won't address them. Obama is a corporate puppet. How about drone strikes!? the international outcry is growing over these murders that kill many many women and children! Come on..it's not about me being right it's about reality. And what's with this idea that you have to be a phd to underhand this is wrong? Really?

And Brian, I never said there was a time in history we fell from. You've implied that. But, since you raised the question. How about before the banking cartel sealed our fate with the federal reserve act in 1913, I think?

This cartoon explains it all my friend. If the link fails YouTube "the American dream cartoon" it's about half hour. Essential viewing!!

Hick, you are saying that the Supreme Court was wrong, so you ARE saying that you know more about constitutional law than they do.

As for Fast & Furious, please cite your evidence that Obama green lighted the project. Sorry, but you just claiming something is "reality" does not cut it for me.

Ol' Hickory said...

My god can you answer a question? STILL not one response to a real issue! Laughable...by the way what are you talking about? When did I say the Supreme Court were wrong? And, if I did, big deal? If you want to trust those corporately appointed scumbags go ahead. And what are they? Beyond criticism? Do you understand the meaning of a constitutional republic?

It's pretty obvious you have nothing to say.

And as for Obama and fast and furious. He evoked executive privledge ( yet again, more than previous three admins combined!) so he and holder would remain innocent! I mean, really, domi have to connect the dots?

http://www.truthdig.com/tag/operation_fast_and_furious

One more time---- here you go, care to make an actual comment? Obamas treatment of Bradley manning, gitmo, Ndaa, fast and furious, evoking executive privledge, lying about transparency, invasion of Libya with no congressional approval! Murdering US citizens, one a boy, on foreign soil with no due process with a drone! Do you realize the international outcry over these drone attacks that kill women and children daily? Banker bailouts, his health care plan written by big pharma! And on andon and on...
