Utopian Moonbats

Ancient Irish chieftains had to be physically perfect. Should one lose part of a finger in battle he had to step down and let an intact warrior take over leadership. Why? I suspect it was to preserve the illusion that human perfection was possible. Some needed to believe their leader was flawless and they could not tolerate defects. A foolish notion of course, but one which persisted in immature societies like Irish clans.

Young children think their parents are flawless. As adolescents however, they perceive parental imperfections. Soon flaws are all teenagers can see and they walk twenty paces behind mothers or fathers in public. Many rebel in some way, rejecting parental authority and value systems. At about twenty-five or so, they should mature as they realize that nobody out there is perfect, including themselves. They learn to live with imperfections in people and in the structures under which we govern ourselves.

Most of us fall in love with someone of the opposite sex and we perceive our new loved one as an impeccable human being. That perception too wears off over time when we inevitably perceive defects. They become magnified if we persist in our childish notion that anyone could be faultless. Those who cannot accept imperfection divorce over and over as they search for the perfect mate that doesn’t exist.

All of us seem to have an inherent need to believe in something perfect and the concept of God fulfills that for most. Atheists and agnostics keep looking, however. Some worship other people they perceive to be more intelligent than they are. Others worship nature. Still others, like Marx and Engels, design what they think is a perfect system. They and their followers would impose it on humanity whether people want it or not.

When baby boomers became adolescents in the 1960s, they rebelled against their parents. That much was normal enough even with the unprecedented size of the boomer generation. Trouble is, a significant portion refused to grow up after rebelling against their parents’ value systems. Boomers raised with security and privilege on a level previously unknown considered their good fortune the natural order of things. Instead of appreciating the system that provided it to them, they brazenly trashed those practices and institutions built by their forebears. In their hubris, they rejected do’s and don’ts for human conduct learned since the beginning of civilization.

For example:
Sexual mores? Unnecessary. If it feels good, do it. Marriage? Too constricting. “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.” Drugs and alcohol? “Whatever turns you on.” Patriotism? “Imagine there’s no country. It’s easy if you try. Nothing to kill or die for.” God? “And no religion too.” Economics? “Imagine no possessions . . . No need for greed or hunger . . . Imagine all the people sharing all the world.”

Naiveté? Of course - the height of it. Baby boomers refused to grow up and many continue to resist maturation. Now they run most of our universities, media and many charitable foundations controlling billions of dollars. They largely control what millions see and understand about the world around them. The result is what you hear out of the mouths of people like Rosie O’Donnell, Cindy Sheehan and Dennis Kucinich just to name a few. Conservatives call them “moonbats” and they think in lockstep. Muslim crazies kill thousands of innocent Americans? “They only hate us because Bush, Cheney and Halliburton provoked them. If we just impeach those guys and pull out of Iraq everything will be all right. It’s American government policies that cause terrorism, not Islamic terrorists.” That’s how they think.

Even when Islamofascists themselves proclaim over and over that they intend to make the world Muslim and impose Sharia Law, it isn’t enough to crack the moonbats’ childish world view. President Bush is dangerous, not Radical Muslim terrorists. If we can just elect perfect, progressive leaders, those oppressed Muslims will see how nice we are and we’ll all get along the way John Lennon imagined: “The world will live as one.”

“You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not not the only one,” goes Lennon’s refrain. I agree. You were a dreamer and, unfortunately, you weren’t the only one. There are plenty of moonbats out there in groups like Moveon.org. They elected a new majority in our Congress. Now if they can just elect a perfect president, the world will finally live as one. We’ll all be smiling happy people holding hands in utopia.

“Moonbats” do not have a lock on delusions. The unshakable (and mistaken) certainty that Iraq harbored ‘weapons of mass destruction’ comes to mind as a tragic example. The declaration of ‘mission accomplished’ in Iraq when nothing could be further from the truth ranks right up there as well.

Given a choice, I would personally prefer the docile delusions of the baby boomers.

While I do not consider myself to have been brainwashed by some university or media outlet (anyone with 2 brain cells that connect takes what Rosie O’Donnell says with a grain of salt anyway), I am swayed by a certain book that I read every morning, a book which gives unambiguous instructions as to how to treat one’s enemy (Muslim or otherwise). It says:

“But to you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” Lk 6, 27-28

And further:

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Mt 5, 9

It even goes so far as to hold up an example of utopia:

“They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life... All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell all their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need.” Acts 2, 42-45

Maybe Jesus was a baby boomer. Who knew?

"Naiveté? Of course - the height of it. Baby boomers refused to grow up and many continue to resist maturation."

...the first thought that came to my mind was Star Trek. Born in the 60's where racism, hatred, and poverty was wiped out - and you didn't need to lock your door.

Joy joy. So many of these poor folk dress up and pretend this really does exist.

One thing I don't see at Spaz, err Star Trek conventions is guys dressed up as the janitor or where the washrooms are. Everyone's a Captain or some important figure.

Yep, best military practice, teleport 3/4 of your command structure to the front lines.

The entire leadership of the Democrat Party believed the same thing during the 1990s and Congress authorized "regime change" in Iraq, knowing that Clinton wouldn't summon the gonads to actually do it.

Saddam said he had WMD also and he did. Ask the Kurds about nerve gas. Ask the Iranians. It probably went to Syria before 2003.

Iraq is just one theater in the war against Radical Islam. I would be okay making peace after we've killed those who are shooting at us. I don't think Jesus meant for us to kneel down and pray for those who were firing in our direction. Our church recognizes something called "Just War." John Paul II didn't endorse this war and neither does Benedict XVI, but that's not to say it isn't just. The best defense is a good offense.

As for the quote from Acts, I've read it and it does sound communist I'll admit. One guy and his wife were struck dead on the spot for holding back some of the proceeds from the sale of a piece of land as I recall. Are you going to sell your possessions and divide them among all according to each one's need? I'm not ready to. Neither will I turn the other cheek when someone is trying to kill me.

Guess I'm not that good a Christian yet.

The current crop of "moonbats", as you call them, are second gen crypto-Menshevicks who have now taken decadent socialism to the next stage which is transnational progressivism.....or "tranzies" for short...they are ardent proponents to give away the institutions of individual and national sovereignty which their boomer parents set out to deconstruct.

Boomer 60s deconstructionism was spawned by the phenomena of producing a calm satble prosperity in which the largest generation of Americans enjoyed the opportunity to enter college...in college is where this coddled and priviledged generation interfaced with a professorship that had migrated from the Frankfurt school to America before/during the war in europe...the professorship of this Euopean think tank were distinctly utopian marxists who believed that centralized socialism must be the future for America, even though this ideal conflicted with the founding principles of the republic and the American cultural/social ideal....but as ardent students of Engles they took a page from the manifesto and realized the key to effective Menshevik revolution in a free republic was through indoctrination at a learning institutional level and then through these indoctrinates becoming "activists" in getting the socialist agenda installed democratically.

Thus the marches and iconoclast demonstrations and lastly these campus boomers forming the core of the radical left establishment in the party system, and national NGOs.

Their offspring "the tranzies" want to take the devolution of the republic a step further to global socialism by destroying the sovereignty of the individual ( group rights/class/race/multicult group entitlement) and devolving national sovereignty (UN NGOs/ world court/North American union).

So Joe McArthy was right in one small respect...America was under attack by subversive elements who had a communist agenda...he just was looking in the wrong place and used force instead of ideological counter argument to nutralize communism's big lie.

and that big lie is this:

If you understand that socialism is NOT a share the wealth plan but a politically actuated plan to consolidate political power and control a nation’s wealth, then the paradox of the well heeled and super rich men promoting socialism becomes no paradox at all. Instead it becomes logical, even the perfect tool for wealthy power-seeking megalomaniacs.

Communism, or more accurately centralized socialism, is not a movement of the down-trodden masses but of the economic elite.

So Boomer hippies became Ted Turner Yuppies and now we see "Tranzies" like Al Gore, David Rockerfeller and Maurice Strong promoting global socialism and devolution of the nation state.

How about "marsbats" for those who grew up in combative neighborhoods and now need the world to conform to that view, or all their early fist fights were for naught?
Devolutionists, who need the countries of the world to remain a bunch of street gangs so that they don't have to peek into the scary unknown.
That is always the sacriest thing for people isn't it-- to hold onto what we have even if it hurts and kills millions because it is what we know.
Speaking of growing up...
Also the talk of gonads is getting tiring Tom. What about responsible world leadership? I still say your anti-gay stance reeks of Brokeback Mountain. And I remain anonymous because your column is imposed on everyone every week without our consent, so why should I cooperate?
