Asinine Education Officials

September’s coming, so let’s look at the latest way our federal government screws up public schools.Black students are suspended or expelled far more than white students - 350% more. President Obama’s Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, claims it’s because of white racism. I think that’s baloney. Black students are disciplined more because they misbehave more, but it doesn’t matter what I think. Liberals are in charge of the US Department of Education, most state education departments, and all teachers’ unions. What they think is what matters. They think they can solve the problem the same way they try to solve so many other social problems - by blaming it on racism and spending money on it.

The result is always the same too: It gets worse and we go further into debt because nearly half the money they spend is borrowed from China. Obama Administration officials and civil rights advocates like to repeat one phrase, according to Heather MacDonald, writing in her City Journal essay Undisciplined: the “school to prison pipeline.”

They think racist schools steer black students to prison. They believe white racist discrimination causes poverty and poverty causes crime. They’re completely stuck in that sixties mindset and cannot think any other way. That would be fine, but they’re running our schools and spending billions. MacDonald points out that white boys are suspended or expelled twice as often as Asian or Pacific Islander boys, but administration officials ignore that. It doesn’t fit their world view.Neither do they seem to notice correlation between black misbehavior in schools and the black murder rate. “The homicide rate among males between the ages of 14 and 17 is nearly ten times higher for blacks than for whites and Hispanics combined,” writes MacDonald. “Such data make no impact on the Obama administration and its orbiting advocates, who apparently believe that the lack of self-control and socialization that results in this disproportionate criminal violence does not manifest itself in classroom comportment as well.”Why the blindness? It’s easy to explain. These officials are all devout members of the multicultural priesthood. They mustn’t look at cultural clues among black students like fatherlessness, drug use, (c)rap music, domestic violence, graffiti, sexual behavior, “ebonics,” generational welfare, domestic violence - to name just a few. It’s okay to bring up those things if you’re going to blame them on racism, but if you were to suggest that the black community itself might share responsibility for any of it - or might even foster it in some cases - you’d be quickly labeled “racist” and shunned.

In graduate school during the 70s, I was trained to apply standardized tests to students measuring intelligence, achievement, and various other learning abilities. If I obtained low scores measuring intelligence, there were items to rule out lest it skew an individual student’s profile, and one was “cultural deprivation.” It had to be considered when trying to determine if a student had enough gray matter to learn what the school was trying to teach. In other words, he might be intelligent but his culture was holding him back. But as I said, that was back in the 70s. Writing anything like that in a student’s folder today would be dangerous to one’s career.

When black students or any other students are suspended or expelled, follow them out to their cars. Watch them struggle to get in with their pants hanging down below their asses and their hats on sideways. What do you hear as they pull away? Even if you’re deaf, you would likely feel the air around you literally vibrate from a deep base box in the trunk with a (c)rap music beat. Listen to the anger and hate in the “ebonic” lyrics. There are definite cultural clues there about what may be affecting their behavior, but Arne Duncan and his ilk have to ignore them. To acknowledge them would force a modification of their entire world view.

(C)Rap is the signature music of a sick, black subculture. Unfortunately though, it’s celebrated in countless award ceremonies televised around the world. It’s worshiped and glorified by Hollywood and by students of all races and it’s not good. It’s poison, and the solid black Christian culture from which emerged people like the Reverend Martin Luthor King Jr. wanes as the sick, black subculture spreads.American Heritage Dictionary defines multiculturalism as: “The view that the various cultures in a society merit equal respect and scholarly interest. It became a significant force in American society in the 1970s and 1980s as African-Americans, Latinos, and other ethnic groups explored their own history.”To the multicultural priesthood, I’m obviously a heretic and I don't march in their parade. I believe that good and bad are perfectly fine adjectives to use when describing culture. Cultural trends that degrade women and kill children are bad. Cultural trends that nurture them are good. Our educational elite doesn’t seem to get this because they drink multicultural Kool-Aid every day. That’s how they “race to the top” of their profession. And yes, the puns are intentional.

Regardless of race, students who misbehave must be removed from classrooms lest they deprive others students of their right to education. Anyone who doesn’t understand that shouldn’t be making education policy. They shouldn’t be in the profession at all.

Tom states: "Cultural trends that degrade women and kill children are bad. Cultural trends that nurture them are good. Our educational elite doesn’t seem to get this because they drink multicultural Kool-Aid every day".

This is perhaps your most asinine assertion and you say something to this effect in nearly every post. I don't know of a single educator that thinks degrading women and killing children is acceptable anytime, anywhere. Please provide a direct quote from a well-known and influential educator that supports your statement. Obscure hacks and bloggers such as yourself don't count.

Granted, there are some exaggerations in your column today, but perhaps you need to express them in order to get people thinking about the the societal/educational problems which DO exist - like them or not.

Texas, they are not "exaggerations". They are deliberate lies from a so-called educator. Is this the BS he filled his students' heads with?

Hey anonymous, you should change your brand of Kool Aid. You sound like you approve of degrading women and killing children. Does something have to be approved by well known and influential educators to be true? I am just an average 'Joe' so I guess my opinion doesn't count.

In my humble opinion, if we want to eliminate racism then the box to check to self identify needs to be eliminated. How are we even qualifying what race is at this point anyhow? By complexion only? What percentage of my family tree needs to be 'of color' for me to be considered a person of color? That is a question that no one in our system has dare qualify! Stop checking the boxes to identify your race - or check all of them!

By failing to condemn that subculture represented by rap, hip-hop, ebonics, and associated trappings, educators grant it tacit approval.

All cultures and subcultures are not equal. The hip-hop culture is to the black community what Radical Islam is to Islam. Some are just plain bad.

Multiculturalism is a ridiculous notion. We should go back to the Melting Pot model.

bigot: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially: one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
Some of the liberal bigots, faced with inescapable facts from your posts, cannot refute what you have written, so they resort to name-calling and ridiculously false accusations, sometimes calling you by their own "family names."

Hi Tom, good article. My college-attending daughter told me just yesterday that she's so tired of hearing her Black professors say, "If you have any questions, ax me after class." These are college-educated teachers who can't say "ask"!?! I'm a math teacher and it grates on my nerves to hear other math teachers (!) say "heighth". There's no "th", it's "ht". That same daughter corrected her math teacher in high school regarding the pronunciation and was kicked out of class for two days. Here's a real oxymoron for you: the Dept. of Education. Hopefully we can rid the country of this extra-Constitutional bureaucracy! Barb

'Ax' is a dialect thing, just as saying y'all. Its no better or worse than speakng a different language. What standard would you like for the preferred usage. The British find our use of their english language strange at best. Get over it.

Barb said...

Yes, and that "language" is called ebonics--for the ignorant and/or the lazy. The standard in America is English (note the capital letter E). That's the preferred usage and the intelligent one. Thank heavens for the British from whence came our language. So, what is the "it" I should get over?

I moved to Georgia in 1985. I had taught my children good English. I was shocked to learn, after moving here, that they spoke better English than their teachers. Right now I am the minority in my county. Yes, for some reason that I don't know, the black population cannot pronounce "ask". Is it lazy Ebonics handed down from generation to generation? Will we one day find it in the dictionary? My biggest English pet peeve of all is "had went". It seems that everyone here says it, and even my children say it just because everyone, including teachers say it. Another one is "anyways". Huh? Anyway is an adverb. If you say anyways, you are pluralizing an adverb!!! And we wonder why we have some of the lowest scholastic rankings on the planet! Thanks for letting me vent!!!

Hmmm, who controls Hollywood and the music industry?

Let me see....who could it be? Hmmmm.??

( hint, you gladly hand over your tax money to them every year, heck, you've helped to build them an army, and let's ignore their influence on congress right? If there's money to be made from exploiting people......well, again, who controls Hollywood and the music industry? That's where your anger should be directed.)

If anyone would know about teching young black youth it would be Tom. Lots of diversity in that fryeburg school system huh Tom? I would guess you could count the number of blacks youve taught on one hand. You would know better than anyone.

I taught juvenile delinquents in Lowell MA before I came up here to Maine. Murderers, rapists, B&E artists, muggers, etc. Two years.

I lived in the neighborhoods they lived in too. I saw them on the streets where I lived.

The truth said...

And that's relevant now because??? So, you get your info on urban culture from television? Wow.

To restate what Winston said above.
You merely have to look at the architects of this so called black culture, that is not real, yet is sold as reality on television and radio. As a result it starts to become real as the poor uneducated urban youth mimic what they see on tv, the radio, billboards, magazines, movies, etc. they are being marketed to on a massive level. The promotion of misogyny, murder, stealing, rape, and intolerance can be seen all over telvision and it is shameless. So, attack the ones who make all this shit up and sell it for massive profit. They are the true problem. These unethical greedy swine are after only one thing. Money..they are to blame.period. Call them out and hold them accountable.

Who are they Tom? Hint, they ain't irish catholic.

Language snobs are among the worst kinds.

I hope this is grammatically correct, I would hate to offend.

Ah yes, another display of Christian values and tolerance.

Jesus would have said the same thing Tom.

Just out of curiosity, how do you reconcile bigotry, hate, racism and intolerance with your Christian values?
Beyond hypocrisy isn't it? Way beyond irony.

Explains a lot though....

A vote for Obama will bring war with Syria, Iran, and eventually Russia and China. The economy will continue to suffer in order to bolster the interests of off-shore corporate-financier interests, while  the collective prospects of Americans continue to whither and blow away. A vote for Romney, however, will also bring war with Syria, Iran, and eventually Russia and China. The economy will also continue to suffer in order to bolster the interests of off-shore corporate-financier interests, while the collective prospects of Americans continue to whither and blow away. Why?
Because the White House is but a public relations front for the corporate-financier interests of Wall Street and London. A change of residence at the White House is no different than say, British Petroleum replacing its spokesman to superficially placate public opinion when in reality the exact same board of directors, overall agenda, and objectives remain firmly in place. Public perception then is managed by, not the primary motivation of, corporate-financier interests.
It is the absolute folly to believe that multi-billion dollar corporate-financier interests would subject their collective fate to the whims of the ignorant, uninformed, and essentially powerless voting masses every four years. Instead, what plays out every four years is theater designed to give the general public the illusion that they have some means of addressing their grievances without actually ever changing the prevailing balance of power in any meaningful way.
The foreign policy of both Obama and Romney is written by the exact same corporate-financier funded think-tanks that have written the script for America’s destiny for the last several decades.
Bush = Obama = Romney
