Leaving The Country

Crossmolina

It's not because liberal dominance has gotten too difficult to bear, though it is trying. I'm going back to Ireland with my wife, my mother (84), and my uncle (90). We're heading for Crossmolina, County Mayo, from where my great-grandmother, Kate McDonnell, emigrated to Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania in the 1880s sometime. My great-grandfather Peter Haggerty followed her to Wilkes Barre and married her. My mother and uncle knew Kate when she was an old woman and they were children.

I may post short pieces from there with a few photos, but I probably won't be posting columns unless I'm very inspired.

Or, unless Israel attacks Iran.

Gotta go catch a plane . . .

Oh my goodness!! I don't blame you and I certainly wish you every good thing in Ireland but you'll be leaving a huge hole in Bridgton News commentary. I may have to cancel our subscription as you have been pretty much the only reason I have continued subscribing. I have absolutely loved your articles, especially the most recent ones where you have really taken off the gloves. I will truly miss you!
But, again, best wishes to you!

Dear Tom,

Thank you for the wonderful columns, especially recently. I have enjoyed your musings over the years and will miss reading them.

Enjoy Ireland......and may I ask if this a permanent move? I know that everyone else is assuming it is (and we all know what happens when you do that :)), but leave it to me to be different..........

You're right Bobby. It's not a permanent move. Sorry I wasn't too clear but I haven't become an expatriate. I'm just taking a break - be back next Monday.

When I got those comments above, I re-read my post and realized how you could have gotten that impression, but I was being sardonic. It's nice to be missed though, even when I'm not really going. I won't be posting a column this week or next, but should resume the week after that.

Sorry for misleading folks.
